Reproductive Justice Column

Since 2016, I’ve authored a weekly reproductive justice column on DailyKos. The abortion clinic and choice activism website Abortion Clinics Online sponsors these posts.

My original goal with this column was to create a sort of virtual abortion syllabus, steadily outlining the case for reproductive choice. Because I’ve been pregnant for much of the time I’ve written these posts, my work expanded to include the world of reproductive justice, obstetric violence, and human rights during pregnancy. These issues are inextricably linked to choice because we cannot demand that women give birth in a maternity system that abuses them and allows them to die of preventable illnesses.

I’ve written about how anti-choice laws endanger women who have miscarriages; the media’s tendency to parrot anti-abortion lies; the anti-choice myths many people still believe; the skyrocketing maternal mortality rate, and more.

I occasionally share how my personal experience illuminates the fight for reproductive justice, such as when my baby died and a hospital mismanaged my postpartum hemorrhage. Some of my most popular articles include:
